So many people ask what the finish is that we use on our G3 Studios products. We have had some customers that thought our pieces were made from glass as they see the shine and the reflection of our glossy pieces. You have to remember, Gregg is an engineer. He seeks perfection, quality, and durability. His time and effort spent in researching and testing finishes has finally paid off. He found a finish product that he is truly happy with. He started off like most woodworkers using standard lacquer. Lacquer is cheap, quick and easy. I can honestly tell you that we would go to Home Depot and buy all of their spray lacquer on their shelve - not anymore. Lacquer after time yellows and cracks. You can scrape it off with your finger nail from your wooden pieces. Items that are acidic for use in the kitchen will stain the piece. Lacquer is not durable or long-lasting. Like, I said lacquer is cheap and easy and you get what you pay for as they say. Our finish is like an epoxy. It is the most durable finish available for wood. You can take a rag soaked in lacquer thinner and wrap it around one of our finished pieces and it will not harm the finish - that shows you how durable the product is. Items in the kitchen that are acidic will not harm or stain the pieces. You can scratch the surface with your finger nail all day and it will not harm the finish. The finish we use is not cheap and that reflects in our prices, but like I said you get what you pay for. No finish is indestructible, but you are not going to find a more durable finish for wood than the product that we use. The satin finish and the high gloss are the same product of finish. It is just the difference of satin vs. gloss finish. So, what is the finish ---- well that is our trade secret and I am not going to tell you. I can tell you it is not for the hobbyist or weekend warrior woodworker. |
